Deb Ganderton Oration 2025 A celebration of leadership, communication, and purpose

IABC Victoria’s Deb Ganderton Oration 2025 was a resounding success an inspiring evening that celebrated leadership, communication, and purpose-driven storytelling. Held on 15 October at the stunning JLL offices on Level 32 in Melbourne’s CBD, guests enjoyed breathtaking views of our beautiful city as they connected with peers, leaders, and industry colleagues over a lively cocktail reception.

Now in its fourth year, the Oration remains one of IABC Victoria’s most anticipated events, honouring the legacy of Deb Ganderton a former IABC Victoria President and exceptional communicator who rose from adviser to CEO. Deb’s commitment to speaking up, changing lives, and sharing great stories continues to inspire communicators across the profession.

This year’s oration was delivered by Sally Capp AO, former Lord Mayor of Melbourne, a leader widely admired for her authenticity, courage, and community focus. Sally shared how discipline, preparation, and purpose underpin effective leadership, reflecting on her journey from the campaign trail to the Town Hall. She spoke candidly about accountability, humility, and the power of communication to connect, inspire, and turn intent into impact.

Following her address, Sally was joined by her trusted team of communicators: Rebecca Skelton, Chief Customer Experience and Communications Officer at the City of Melbourne; Ben Hart, Founder and Managing Director of Fireside; and Stephanie Waters, Founder and Director of Mulberry Marketing for an engaging panel discussion.

Together, they explored the evolving landscape of leadership and communication, touching on authenticity, diversity, vulnerability and the strength of leading from the ground up.

Adding a creative touch to the night, Sketch Group beautifully captured the event through live illustration, bringing the energy, ideas, and insights of the evening to life.

The evening was a fitting tribute to Deb Ganderton’s legacy and a celebration of the communicators who continue to drive meaningful change across industries and communities.

This event was made possible thanks to the generous support of our event partners, JLL, Hope & Glory and Sketch Group whose contribution helped bring this memorable evening to life.
