Message from the President - Winter 2026

Communications is one of those careers where you never really reach a point where you’ve “figured it all out.”

In this profession, there is always something new to learn. Whether it's adapting to AI, finding better ways to influence leaders, navigating organisational or cultural changes, or simply learning from the people around us, the work is constantly evolving. While that can feel challenging at times, it's also what keeps it so interesting.

For me, learning is about staying curious and being open to new perspectives from those others who understand the opportunities and challenges we face every day.

That's exactly what we're aiming to support through IABC Victoria, with a packed professional development agenda ahead.

This month, we're exploring how internal communications is evolving beyond content creation in our upcoming Beyond the Content Factory event. It's a timely conversation about the growing strategic role of communicators, from navigating AI to building trust and delivering measurable business impact. As always, there'll also be plenty of opportunity to continue the conversation and connect with fellow communicators afterwards.

We're also excited to welcome Ben Hart for an exclusive Leader as a brand masterclass in August. Strong leadership communication has never been more important, and this practical workshop will equip attendees with tools to help leaders communicate with authenticity, clarity and influence. This will be a half-day workshop with one of the best in the business; a chance to gain practical, real-world insights into how strong leadership brands are built and shaped.

And while we're on the topic of professional development, if you've been thinking about attending IABC APAC Fusion, this is the perfect year to do it. With the conference taking place in Brisbane, it's a rare opportunity to hear from communication leaders across our region without travelling overseas. I hope to see many of our Victorian members there.

I'd also like to warmly welcome Belinda Hayes as our new Membership Chair. Belinda brings extensive experience across higher education, government and strategic communications, and I'm looking forward to the expertise and fresh perspective she'll bring to our Board and member community.

I hope you'll join us at one of our upcoming events, whether you're looking to learn something new, reconnect with peers or expand your network. After all, the best professional development often starts with a simple conversation.
