Message from the President - July 2025

Building momentum, celebrating community

Two words have been front of mind for the Board lately: community and momentum. As professional communicators, we know how vital connection is—especially in uncertain times. That’s why last week’s sold-out Winter Mingle was such a joy. The energy in the room was electric—buzzing conversations, laughter, and a genuine sense of camaraderie among communications leaders across industries and organisations. It was a reminder of what makes our community so special.

We’re keeping that momentum going.

Our pipeline of events—both in-person and virtual—is designed to keep you engaged, inspired, and connected. And next up is a big one: our signature Annual Deb Ganderton Oration, the highlight of our calendar, which is held in honour of former IABC Victoria President Deb Ganderton who passed away in 2022. By all accounts, Deb was a powerhouse communicator and CEO and the type of leader who shifts the energy in a room with her sheer presence.

This year, we’re honoured to welcome Former Lord Mayor of the City of Melbourne Sally Capp AO as our 2025 Orator. Sally was the first person who came to mind when we began planning this event and we are beyond delighted that she has accepted the invitation.

For me, Sally has always personified an exemplar communicator and leader, and I know I am not alone!

And it’s not just Sally. True to her belief that leadership is a team sport, she’ll be joined by former communications advisers who helped her find her voice, build community and catalyse her impact as Lord Mayor. It promises to be an evening of insight, inspiration, and connection—with a healthy dose of fun, of course.

Partnership and community is key to all we do. So a sincere thanks to our partners JLL and Hope & Glory for joining us to deliver this event.
