"Oh I'm not into politics" - What communications professionals can learn from political communications

Ask most people what they think about politics and politicians and you'll get a pretty clear (and negative answer). Yet so many of those same people will still follow political debates, express an allegiance to a party or political position and at least vote (if not also donate and volunteer). So what's going on here? With so much of the work of professional communications about engaging audiences how is this low trust sector cutting through? The theme of the Conference is Communication creates and I believe it can create opportunities for understanding, common cause, and social progress but it can also seed fear, misunderstanding and division.

There's a whole lot of research, evidence and expertise that drives political communications that I believe communications professionals could benefit from understanding. From the power of research to message discipline, speeches, community engagement and activation, social media, the interchangeable use of positive and negative frames, to much more.

This session will provide attendees with practical tips on how to use the best of the political communications tool kit and apply it to your organisation and its leaders.
